Purpose

Use this checklist to test whether a club or venue makes ordinary period-related participation needs straightforward and dignified. It is a practice tool, not an accreditation or medical standard.

Checklist

  • Toilets are clearly signposted, usable and kept available throughout sessions/events.
  • Appropriate toilets have sanitary disposal.
  • Participants can take reasonable toilet/welfare breaks within the sporting format.
  • Period products are available where practical, with discreet access.
  • Water is reasonably available during long sessions or events.
  • There is a private route to ask for practical support.
  • Staff do not ask for detailed menstrual information when a simple adjustment request is enough.
  • Teasing, shaming or degrading comments about periods are challenged.
  • Clothing/event arrangements do not create avoidable embarrassment around leaks or product changes where flexibility is possible.
  • Girls receive age-appropriate support and safeguarding routes are clear.
  • Event set-up is checked in practice: toilets and routes must remain usable after temporary layouts are installed.
  • Participants can give feedback about facilities without having to disclose medical details.

Minimum practice

At minimum: usable toilets, sanitary disposal, reasonable breaks, privacy, respectful culture and a clear route to request practical support.

How to use it

Walk the participant journey before an event: arrival → playing area → toilet → waiting area → return to play. Record barriers, assign an owner and review whether the fix worked.
