Core test

GET HERE → GET IN → GET AROUND → TAKE PART → USE FACILITIES → LEAVE SAFELY

Before arrival

  • Publish an accurate access description.
  • Explain parking/drop-off and accessible entrance.
  • Give an access contact route.
  • State any known temporary barriers honestly.

Arrival and circulation

  • Routes are clear and not used for storage.
  • Doors, thresholds and reception arrangements are workable.
  • Competition furniture does not block circulation.
  • Mobility aids can remain with the participant where needed.

Playing areas

  • Check space around pool/snooker tables after full event set-up.
  • Check access to darts lanes, oche, scoring and waiting areas.
  • Consider visual contrast, lighting and readable information.
  • Provide an adjustment route for equipment/positioning questions.

Facilities

  • Accessible toilets are unlocked, usable and not storage rooms.
  • Seating/rest points are available where practicable.
  • Food/drink and service points can be accessed.
  • Signage/wayfinding is clear.

Emergency arrangements

  • Evacuation planning includes disabled participants.
  • Staff know the plan and do not rely on “someone will carry them”.
  • Temporary event layouts are included in the safety check.

Operation matters

An accessible building can become inaccessible through poor event layout or management. Recheck the venue after tables, barriers, TV equipment, seating, bags and sponsor displays are in place.

Practice maturity

Starting → Developing → Accessible Practice → Leading Practice. These are internal improvement levels only and are not accreditation.
